Book cover with an abstract watercolor design transitioning from deep green at the top to pale blue at the bottom. Large white lettering reads “A Research Agenda for Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity.” The editors, Rahul Kumar and Sarah Elaine Eaton, are listed in dark blue text near the lower right. Edward Elgar Publishing logos appear at the top right and bottom left, and the cover is identified as part of the Elgar Research Agendas series. The overall design is clean and academic, with the title dominating the composition.

Virtual Book Launch for A Research Agenda for Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity

This Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Rahul Kumar and I will launch our edited collection, A Research Agenda for Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity (2026), at a virtual event hosted by Brock University. The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation and the Faculty of Education at Brock are co-hosting the launch, and Dr. Rajiv Jhangiani, Vice Provost, Teaching and Learning, announced the event last week.

About the Book

Rahul Kumar, Associate Professor of Educational Studies at Brock University, and I co-edited this volume. Our contributors set out directions for scholarship on academic integrity, plagiarism, and research ethics in the age of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and other advanced technologies. The contributors move past detection and compliance. They propose ways forward for teaching, learning, and research that account for GenAI as a permanent part of education.

What We Will Discuss

Rahul and I will talk about how educational institutions can protect learning, authorship, and trust as AI becomes part of learning and assessment. We will focus on two questions:

What role do human agency and responsibility play when people use GenAI in teaching, learning, and research?

How can researchers produce GenAI scholarship that lasts when the technology itself keeps changing?

These questions connect to the work we do at the Postplagiarism Research Lab, where I examine what integrity means once humans and AI write together.
